HVA Members,
The NYS DEC and EPA have selected Honeoye Lake and Conesus Lake for Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) analysis.
The DEC has scheduled a public TMDL project kick-off meeting to solicit public feedback on our lake's water quality issues and to present an overview of their TMDL process Monday, December 15, 2014, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Livonia High School Cafeteria, 2 Bulldog Blvd., Livonia, NY 14487.
Basically, the TMDL process will model the various external and internal nutrient sources that contribute to our lake's water quality issues, set target nutrient/pollution levels for each controllable nutrient source, and going forward our grant proposals to address the actions recommended in the DEC TMDL Final Report will receive a higher priority for funding.
A very good overview of the TDML process and its benefits can be found at http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/23835.html See DEC TMDL Meeting announcement below:

Subject: Honeoye and Conesus Lakes Water Quality Public Meeting
Please join the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation
(DEC) for a public meeting on Monday, December 15, 2014, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., to talk about improving the water quality in Conesus and Honeoye Lakes. At the meeting we will discuss how the public and other stakeholders in the lakes’ watersheds can work together to improve the lakes.
More specifically, we will talk about lake issues, resources for lake communities, and the development of documents, called Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL), that outline strategies to limit the amount of nutrients entering the lakes. The first half of the meeting will cover the TMDL process and what we know so far about the lakes. For the second half we will divide into two groups, one for each lake, to get feedback on how the lake is used, what the issues are, and what has been done so far to improve the lake.
The meeting will be held at the Livonia High School Cafeteria, 2 Bulldog Blvd., Livonia, NY 14487.
More information about the meeting is available at http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/23835.html. Starting on December 16, DEC will make available on that webpage the presentation that was given at the public meeting. The presentation will have both an audio and visual component. Any questions that viewers of the recorded presentation have can be sent to waterlog@dec.ny.gov.
Please share this information with anyone who may be interested in learning about how to improve Honeoye and Conesus Lakes. A meeting announcement is attached for posting on bulletin boards or online. A postcard announcing the meeting has also been mailed to properties and municipalities within the lakes’ watersheds.
